It’s always a pleasure to read your articles Candace. Your work is always eloquent and profound and the sketches and photos a delight to the eye. (I’m drooling over your lunch photo)! I’m so thrilled you are able to deliver you fantastic travels to us not only in writing and visual form but also sending us off at night to sweet dreams through Calm. This all helps in taking the edge off of this anxious time in our lives.
Thank you so much for your kind words here, Treava, it's wonderful to hear from you. And I couldn't agree more with you...it really does feel like we're living with a constant edge of anxiety around us right now, and I've been so moved by the collective effort to share and connect and help each other make it through this. I hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe, and know I'm sending a big hug from Montevideo! <3
Thank you. I just love your writing. This story made me immediately think of a time when I had quit a long term job and had a very hard time finding my next one. Eventually I did find a new path that brought me a lot of joy. As we make our way now we all need to remain hopeful and be kind and loving.
I couldn't agree more with you, Barbara -- love, hope, and kindness are going to play an enormous role in helping us all navigate these uncertain times. And I'm so moved to hear that this story reminded you of that time in your life.
The incredible thing about my Turkish pilgrimage, and the thing I'll always be most grateful for from that journey, was how tangible it made some very powerful lessons. Going through such a physically challenging journey taught me so much about how to continue to face life's less tangible journeys -- vocational journeys, journeys of relationships and love, etc. Life is full of uncertainty, most especially right now, and remembering how it felt to be so physically lost and uncertain in Turkey continues to give me strength for today.
I hope you're staying safe and well, and thank you again for sharing your experience. <3
Heartwarming letter, Candace. Filled with love and open hearts. I’m seeing a lot of that now. I think that the words, ‘step by step’ shows us the only way to navigate through this crisis. Being in the moment, appreciating the moments of joy, finding pleasure in the small things that are becoming part of our new routines. Be safe and well.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom here, Colleen -- 'step by step' is indeed the only way forward right now, and I hope you continue to find moments of calm and joy with each step. Be well! <3
Thank you so much for your kind words, Joyce. It's wonderful to hear from you here, and I hope you're keeping safe and well during these challenging times. <3
As always, your writing touches me deeply, this one in particular. While you'll never find me on a long walk (mobility issues), I could smell the trees, dust, bushes, sheep, tomatoes...even the kerosene in your lamp. And the questions are so pertinent. What is my equivalent of the $7 compass, a story in itself, isn't it? Thank you. I've fallen away from Moment Sketchers because of technical difficulties, but you remind me that part of my path is that important connection, now more than ever. Thank you! If it's still possible to email you our sketches, I'll do that. Stay well!
Nora, your comment was so moving to read -- I love that you were inspired to ask yourself what your own compass is right now, and I'll be thinking about that even deeper myself in the coming days and weeks. It'd also be wonderful to have you back with us for our Moment Sketchers challenges, so I look forward to seeing and sharing your sketches! <3

Thank you so much! It is one of my favorite sleep stories and to be able to see the actual photos is amazing!
