“Teach the children… Stand them in the stream, head them upstream, rejoice as they learn to love this green space they live in, its sticks and leaves and then the silent, beautiful blossoms.”
— Mary Oliver
Hello, friend!
How are you? Somehow nearly two years have passed since my last update here, but I wanted to get in touch today with a couple of things to share with you — including a special invitation to my newest creative project:
Firstly, last April, Jose and I welcomed a baby girl into the world! Elena Rose arrived on a beautiful Sunday morning in Montevideo, and ever since, I’ve loved getting to see the world through her bright, curious eyes.
The second thing I’m excited to share with you is closely connected to Elena’s arrival.
While I didn’t have a chance to do much writing or painting after she was born, I’ve recently begun to feel a little stirring of creative restlessness, calling me back to my desk (which is currently our dining room table!).
After a few conversations with Jose, I decided to start a new illustrated newsletter, simply about this new world I find myself navigating. Each story captures a tiny moment from my journey to rediscover creative rhythms as a new mom.
And for a name, I found inspiration in one of Elena’s favorite books, I Am a Bunny, and called it Dandelion Seeds.
Every Tuesday, I’ll send out a short essay, paired with an original painting — just long enough to read while your coffee brews. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, I wanted to invite you to sign up before this week’s essay goes out tomorrow:
I hope this finds you safe and well, and I especially hope to see you over at Dandelion Seeds soon!
With love,
Candace
